BAND
Grades 9-12
The Bulldog Band is made up of musicians with prior band experience.
The band will perform regularly at concerts, contest, home football games, home
basketball games, parades, and various other performances. The Purple Waves
Flag Corps is selected from band members and will perform as such during marching
season. During the year, opportunities for various ensembles, solos, and honor
band participation will be available. Highest standards of musicianship and
participation are continuously emphasized to ensure the highest possible quality
of performance.
JAZZ BAND
Grades 9-12
The Jazz Band is made up of select musicians who are also enrolled in the
Symphonic Band or Orchestra. The Jazz Band performs throughout the year at a
variety of concerts, contest, and community functions, as well as studying the
basics of jazz styles, history and improvisation.
ORCHESTRA
Grades 9-12
This performance group is open to all string players with
prior playing experience. The ACHS Orchestra will perform concerts and programs
as well as contests. A great deal of emphasis will be placed on mastering basic
and advanced skills, playing technique, and proper implementation.
CHMBER CHOIR
Grades 9-12
This course is an open enrollment mixed chorus for any
grade level; however, Chamber Choir is not a music club. This class requires
the serious study of singing technique, learning to read music, and the art
of choir singing. Emphasis is on developing the performance skills which students
need for selection to an audition class through the singing of classical music.
SYMPHONC CHOIR
Grades 10-12
A selected SATB choir primarily for sophomores, juniors and senior with
advanced vocal music skills. Course content includes the detailed study of vocal
techniques, the art of choral singing and sight-reading. Selection to this choir
is by audition with the instructor.
ARKETTES
Grades 10-12
Arkettes is an advanced small ensemble of 9-15 singers
for sophomore, junior and senior girls. The art of ensemble singing, and good
vocal and choral techniques will be emphasized. Selection for this class is
by audition with the instructor.
ARK HIGH SINGERS
Grades10-12
Ark High Singers is an advanced small ensemble of selected
SATB voices, chosen for their musical ability, appearance, attitude and personality.
This class is the show group of the Vocal Music Department. Selection for this
class is by audition with the instructor.
SELECT GIRLS CHORUS
Grades 9-12
A small ensemble of up to 24 girls. The art of ensemble
singing and good vocal and choral techniques will be emphasized. Selection for
this class is by audition with the instructor.
INTER-RELATED ARTS
Grades 10-12
This course is an open enrollment for students wishing
to expand their knowledge of all the Arts. This course will look at how the
various art forms relate to one another and how they affect our culture. This
course will also allow students to explore individual creativity. Students need
not have previous music or art experience.
MUSIC THEORY
Grades 11-12
This course is open only to students concurrently enrolled
in a performance music class. This class will focus on the fundamentals of Western
harmony and composition. This is a college prep class for students planning
on pursuing music in college.
