At its regular meeting Monday night, the USD 470 Board of Education approved the district summer school program. The locations for summer school are: Roosevelt, Jefferson, the middle school and the high school.
Much like last year, the summer program will include a breakfast and a classroom component in the morning, a balanced lunch and an afternoon component in conjunction with the recreation center. The afternoon session is for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Summer class options for high school students include: DriverÕs Education (class started in January), US History/Constitution, World History/Economics, English (make-up), Math (make-up), Science (make-up) and special education services.
Both student enrollment and staff availability will determine which classes will be offered. Students who want to take classes for advancement rather than make-up will owe a fee of $60.
Participants of the summer school program will be determined using multiple sources of achievement data.
Since the bond issue passed, the board of education and district administration are looking ahead to the actual construction of the projects.
At its meeting Monday, the board directed administration to seek proposals on construction management provisions and bring information back to the board regarding both standard construction managers and construction managers at-risk, within 60 days.
Dr. Ron Ballard, superintendent, said Monday that there are four project areas large enough to justify a construction management position. Those include the IXL/Adams, ACHS and ACMS renovations, and the district sports complex.
ÒMany aspects of these projects require a certain expertise,Ó Ballard said. ÒHaving a construction manager would help ensure the highest quality construction while also working to give us the best price for that quality.Ó
