School board adopts resolution to establish account for bond monies

At its regular meeting Monday, the USD 470 Board of Education adopted Resolution 08-04, to establish an account in the Municipal Investment Pool (MIP), as defined in K.S.A. 12-1625, pursuant to Chapter 254 of the 1996 Session Laws of Kansas, and amendments thereto.

The recommendation to establish the account came from Piper-Jaffray, the districtÕs bond advisor and the state school board association.

Dr. Ron Ballard, superintendent, said it is necessary for the district to establish accounts to receive the approximate $35.8 million resulting from the sale of the bonds.

ÒAlthough we will work with in-district, county and possibly in-state financial institutions, it is most helpful to have an investment pool account with the capacity to receive a large sum of money yet offer liquidity for easy transfers to local institutions,Ó he said.

Ballard said a relatively small amount of money will go into the account for such needs but the bulk of the money will go into higher interest opportunities.

Board of education continues to discuss Construction Manager At-Risk

The school board heard an update on the search for a Construction Manager At-Risk company at its meeting Monday.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2008, the boardÕs selection committee met to consider the first round or Phase I of proposals submitted by companies interested in serving in the CM At-Risk capacity. Seven construction companies submitted proposals: Coonrad, Crossland, Hutton, Simpson, Conco, JE Dunn and Manning.

Of those firms, the selection committee recommends that Coonrad, Conco, Hutton and Simpson be considered for Phase II or presentations to the board. Phase II is expected to take place in July, after the new CM At-Risk law goes into effect.
