School board increases substitute teacher pay

At its regular meeting Monday night, the USD 470 Board of Education moved to increase substitute teacher pay to $75 per day. Pay for substitute teachers had not increased since 2005 when it was set to $70 per day.

The board also decided to increase long-term regular substitute teacher pay to $130 per day and increase the pay for substitutes who are fully certified for the appropriate subject and level to $155 per day, after 10 days in the same classroom.

School district to seek bids for repurchase agreement for bond investments

The school board directed district administration to seek bids for a Full Flex Repurchase Agreement for the investment of bond proceeds. Bids will be brought back to the board no later than Monday, August 25, 2008. The board also gave district administration the authority to accept or reject highest bid of investment proceeds at bid opening.

Bond financial consultants, Piper-Jaffray, recommended the board seek bids for this type of repurchase agreement for the purpose of maximizing investment proceeds. Considered ideal for the investment of funds used for construction projects, these agreements are a fixed-rate structure and the district has the flexibility to withdraw funds as needed, without penalty.
