The USD 470 Board of Education voted in approval of a $35,836,790.00 bond proposal at the regular meeting Monday night. The proposal will go before the public for a vote on
Nov. 6, 2007.
For a year, individuals from the community worked on a Facilities Steering Committee to research areas of need such as existing buildings, early childhood, athletic facilities and technology. These are all areas recommended for improvement by the citizens committee appointed in 2003 to assist in developing a strategic improvement plan.
The bond projects included in the proposal are: a new stadium west of the high school, expanding and renovating Adams, C-4, Frances Willard, Jefferson and Roosevelt elementary schools, replacing IXL Elementary School, renovating the original portion of the middle school, expanding and remodeling the high school, upgrading technology as well as other projects.
As part of the renovations, all schools will be undergoing enhanced safety improvements.
ÒOur number one priority and what this all boils down to is the safety of our kids,Ó Dr. Ron Ballard, Superintendent, said.
